From Dialogue to Methodology : Building the Foundations for Our Professions

What began as a conversation is gradually becoming a structured initiative with a clear methodology and a potential institutional pathway.

Eloísa Aguayo has recently opened a dialogue with professionals involved in the development of competency programmes and professional standards. This first exchange provided valuable guidance on how to strengthen our research through three essential components :

• Reliable statistical data about the sector ;

• A study assessing the relevance and current needs of the professions ;

• A ten-year projection of emerging trends.

  
  

At the same time, we are developing a methodological framework to identify the different ecosystems, professional profiles and competencies that make up the massage, spa and wellness sector.

This work is essential. Before proposing training programmes or professional standards, we must first understand who the practitioners are, where and how they work, what responsibilities they hold, and which competencies their professional realities genuinely require.

The next stage will be the creation of five focus groups bringing together people with proven professional experience. We are seeking contributors with expertise in:

• Leadership and strategic direction ;

• Spa and massage operations ;

• Education and professional training ;

• Recruitment and workforce development ;

• Practitioner safety, professional standards and innovation.

These participants should represent a variety of spa, massage and wellness environments. Their knowledge, field experience and access to reliable sector data will help ensure that our work reflects reality rather than assumptions.
